Maintenance of the Brother LC-51BK Ink Cartridge

Brother printing devices use a variety of ink cartridges. The Brother LC-51BK is designed to fit in the following Brother printer models: DCP-130C, DCP-330C, DCP-350C, IntelliFax-1360, IntelliFax-1860C, IntelliFax-1960C, IntelliFax-2480C, IntelliFax-2580C, MFC-230C, MFC-240C, MFC-3360C, MFC-440CN, MFC-465CN, MFC-5460CN, MFC-5860CN, MFC-665CW, MFC-685CW,
MFC-845CW, MFC-885CW.

The Brother company expects this ink cartridge to yield up to 500 printed pages, under normal use. Of course, heavy printing will change the actual number of pages the cartridge will actually print.

The cartridge is easily changeable. The old cartridge pops out of its slot and can be sent to be recycled. After removing the plastic tabs that are marked for removal, the new cartridge simply pops back into the same slot that was vacated by the old cartridge. When the cartridge is popped in and the cover is closed, the printer will begin an automatic new cartridge routine. This may include cleaning the print heads. It may also include printing a test page. The test page can help you determine if more printing is needed and whether the printing is aligned.

The Brother company does not recommend using any store brand cartridges in their printer. They state that their ink cartridges are designed specifically for their printers. Any other brands of ink could damage the ink cartridges or the printing mechanism, itself. The Brother company also recommends against refilling ink cartridges, for the same reasons. The official Brother ink cartridges are the only ones that are recommended, by the company, to replace the ink from their printers.
